Our Beliefs

A church for people recovering from the church

Our Values

We are a progressive church-planting movement within the Disciples of Christ, a denomination rooted in the vision of being a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world.

We understand that the word "church" can be a painful trigger for many who have experienced harm in the name of Christianity. That’s why we describe ourselves as a church for people recovering from the church. We seek to heal, restore, and redefine spiritual community as a space of radical love, inclusion, and grace. Reimagine with us what it means to follow Jesus together.

Our hope is to become a safer space for seekers, skeptics, and those who have been marginalized by the church because of their race, beliefs, gender identity, or sexual orientation.

Unlike many traditional churches, we don’t offer a rigid “statement of beliefs” that you must agree to in order to belong. Jesus didn’t ask for checklists of faith, and neither do we.

Instead, we hold to a set of shared values that guide our life together.

Here’s what matters to us:

God's table

is open for ALL to experience love and belonging.

Faith

is not the absence of doubt, but the presence of curiosity and openness

Questions

are more important than answers

The Bible

should be taken seriously, but not always literally and not as a magic instruction manual for life.

We Believe Church Should Be...

  • a place for authentic conversations, where we can grapple with big questions together, not just listen to someone telling us what’s “right.”

  • a community where we don’t have to hide parts of ourselves - whether it’s about gender, sexuality, mental health, or any other part of our story.

  • a community of humility and compassion, where empathy matters more than being right.

  • involved in the needs of the local community, partnering with community members and organizations who are fighting for the rights and dignity of those who are most vulnerable or marginalized.
